Memorial Day 2012

Sweet girl smelling the pretty flowers
Well, this year was Emily's first experience with taking flowers to my mother's grave site, and me having to try and explain where my mom is and why!

After church on Sunday, May 27th, we met my grandma, my Uncle Mike and Aunt Carol at the cemetery. I had tried during lunch to explain to Emily where we were going, and as expected she had lots of questions. We've never really talked about my mom, although I have pictures of her in my home. In very basic terms we talked about how mommy's mom was in Heaven with Jesus, and we were going to take some flowers to a special place so we never forget her. I tried to explain that sometimes when people get sick they can't get better, and Jesus wants them to live with Him in a very special place up in Heaven. I also explained that lots of sick people do get better and that not all sick people go to Heaven. Emily wanted to see a picture of my mom and was very enthralled with the idea that I had a mom. She is still struggling with the whole relationship thing. It confuses her that grandpa is also mine and JuJu's dad, and her Nana is our grandma, etc. She wasn't using her best behavior at the cemetery, but I know it was all about her not feeling sure about what was happening as we placed flowers, etc. I know as she gets older and understands relationships more, it may become somewhat easier, but for now it was left at the very beginning, basic level. She has asked a few times since last Sunday about my mom and if she is till in Heaven with Jesus.

Mom, we love and adore you, and some day when Emily is old enough to comprehend what a wonder you were, she will learn all about you from those who loved you the most!
Love,
Kathy
